About the Role
We are hiring a hands-on Node.js Developer to design, build, and operate backend services on AWS. You will develop secure, scalable APIs and event-driven workloads using modern serverless services such as AWS Lambda, API Gateway, SQS/SNS/EventBridge, and Secrets Manager. This role suits an engineer who enjoys owning features end-to-end, cares about quality and reliability, and is comfortable working in an Agile delivery team.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver features end-to-end by building Node.js APIs, Lambda functions, and backend services from user stories and technical designs.
- Review requirements and user stories for technical feasibility, scope, and risks; propose pragmatic alternatives where needed.
- Architect and implement secure, compliant backend services on AWS (authentication/authorization, secrets management, least privilege, secure coding practices).
- Build event-driven integrations using SQS / SNS / EventBridge to support scalable workflows.
- Investigate production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement resilient fixes with appropriate test coverage.
- Apply a “quality first” mindset: write clean, testable code and add unit/integration tests.
- Ensure backend solutions support performance, security, and where relevant, accessibility (WCAG) considerations for API-driven user experiences.
- Participate in code reviews, uphold coding standards, and contribute to improving shared components and patterns (Design & Build Enablement – Master level).
- Collaborate with BAs and stakeholders to refine acceptance criteria, clarify edge cases, and ensure business outcomes are met.
- Work in an Agile team: contribute to backlog grooming, stand-ups, retrospectives, and provide reliable effort estimates.
- Collaborate on delivery excellence: CI/CD, feature flags, observability, and safe frequent releases.
- Strong, hands-on experience developing Node.js backend services in production environments.
- Solid experience building and operating solutions on AWS, including:
- AWS Lambda, API Gateway
- Secrets Manager (or equivalent secrets management approach)
- Event-driven services: SQS, SNS, EventBridge
- Strong understanding of security best practices(secure coding, OWASP concepts, authN/authZ patterns, least privilege IAM).
- Experience designing scalable APIs, error handling, and resilience patterns (retries, idempotency, dead-letter queues, timeouts).
- Experience with automated testing (unit/integration) and CI/CD workflows.
- Comfortable working with cross-functional teams (BA, QA, DevOps/SRE) in Agile delivery.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with observability tooling (structured logging, metrics, tracing) and production incident response.
- Experience with feature flagging and release strategies (blue/green, canary).
- Familiarity with IaC (e.g., CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform) and AWS security/compliance requirements.
- Experience building reusable frameworks/components and enabling best practices across teams.
