The Health & Safety Manager/ Assistant Manager oversees all aspects of health, safety and compliance within the organisation. He/she will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining health and safety policies and programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and promoting a safe working and shopping environment for employees and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the organisation complies with all local workplace health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits across stores, warehouses, and offices to identify hazards and implement corrective actions
- Investigate workplace accidents, near-misses, and health concerns; maintain detailed reports and recommend implementable and preventative measures.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans, including fire drills and evacuation procedures
- Regularly review, update and enhance health and safety policies, procedures and processes to align with evolving regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Ensure proper use, maintenance and availability of safety equipment in stores and SSC office
- Maintain comprehensive health and safety records, conduct periodic reports and present findings to management
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory authorities, safety auditors and internal stakeholders
- Develop and deliver health and safety programs, communications for employees, covering important topics such as fire safety manual handling, first aid, and emergency response, etc
- Lead and facilitate health & safety committee meetings, ensuring active participation and implementation of safety initiatives across the organisation.
- Diploma/ Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field
- Relevant certifications e.g. WSQ Workplace Safety and Health is highly preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the retail industry
- Strong understanding of health and safety laws and risk management practices
- Excellent communication, problem solving skills
- Able to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and engaging with stakeholders across various departments.
