Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Architect to define the technical roadmap and future-state architecture for a healthcare interoperability platform. You will lead large-scale clinical data integrations and workflows, drive technical governance, and guide teams in building high availability, high performance integration productions. This role requires deep expertise in healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, CDA/CCDA, IHE, FHIR) and strong architectural leadership across application, infrastructure, and external integration partners.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Architectural Design
- Define the technical roadmap and future-state architecture for the platform, including on-prem, cloud, or hybrid deployment models and integration patterns.
- Lead the design and implementation of large-scale clinical data integrations and workflows, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability.
- Ensure the architecture supports advanced capabilities such as population health analytics and AI/ML initiatives by harmonizing data within the SDA structure.
- Establish and enforce development, configuration, and security standards for integrations and custom applications.
- Guide development teams on best practices for ObjectScript, DTL, XSLT, and BPL within the Interoperability Production environment.
- Define and execute the strategy to implement and migrate to modern standards, particularly HL7 FHIR, to meet evolving regulatory and industry needs.
- Manage security configurations including authentication, authorization, consent management, and data filtering/masking, ensuring compliance with strict healthcare privacy requirements.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to developers and analysts; participate in code and design reviews to maintain quality and performance.
- Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate clinical and business requirements into clear technical specifications and architectural blueprints.
- Provide technical input for project estimation, resource planning, and risk assessments for integration-related projects.
- Act as the liaison between the application team, infrastructure team, and external integration partners during complex deployment and troubleshooting.
Skills & Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Healthcare IT, with at least 5 years specializing in architecting solutions.
- Deep expertise across the healthcare integration technology stack.
- Expert-level knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards, including HL7 V2, CDA/CCDA, IHE profiles, and comprehensive FHIR implementation.
- Proven experience in designing and tuning high-volume, mission-critical integration productions.
- Strong understanding of database management, data modeling, and performance optimization within the integration ecosystem (Globals, indexes).
- Experience with architecture and deployment in major cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Exceptional communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts to both executive leadership and hands-on developers.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related technical field.
- Certified Architect (healthcare integration / interoperability certifications highly advantageous).
- Familiarity with data warehousing, reporting tools, and analytics platforms.
- Experience with DevOps tools (e.g., Git, GitLab/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines).
