Linux System Administrator

  • 12 months contract role, with possible extension

The Opportunity

Participates as a member of the business IT team providing Level 2 and 3 support to Linux-based servers and workstations in product development lab. Provide operational support activities in setup of robust, reliable and secure IT systems and network infrastructure in lab compute space including:

  • Design, prepare and implement end-to-end infrastructure solutions, configuration management, support and change management, integration of components including enclosures, servers, network and storage
  • Assisting with problem resolution and root cause analysis, performance and status monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting
  • Business continuity and recovery plan
  • Improvement and simplification of lab compute space infrastructure architecture
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to junior business IT support engineers
  • Applies in-depth or broad technical knowledge and expertise to provide solutions across one or more technology areas
  • Follows defined organization policies and processes and implements process changes as needed to meet ongoing business IT objectives.

Your Background

  • Minimum a Bachelor / Postgraduate degree in IT, Computer Sciences, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering with at least five years in-depth knowledge and practical experience in enterprise system administration of Linux-based IT systems (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc)
  • Strong scripting experience (Shell, Bash, Python, Ruby, etc.)
  • Good working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, LDAP, Kerberos, SNMP, SMTP, SSH, HTTP/S, TLS
  • Strong technical knowledge of networking such as L2/L3 switches, firewall, VLAN, TCP/IP, VPN
  • Demonstrate technical leadership and general project management skills
  • Knowledge of current IT industry trends and technologies
  • Good team player; self-starter; pro-active
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think out-of-the-box to apply technology to solve business IT problems
  • Ability to work in a geographically dispersed, dynamic and changing environment

Desired Experience:

  • RHCE, LPIC, VMware VCP, MCSE/MCSA, CCNA certifications
  • DevOps/IaC tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Chef, Puppet, Ansible
  • MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, etc
  • HPE Synergy/BL/DL class servers and iSCSI SAN technology
  • Data engineering and visualization
  • Cyber security knowledge
  • Data Center management
